Week 1 ended leaving me with a pile of reading to do. Over my first official weekend I spent more time reading then I have in the past two years. When people thought it was crazy for me to be taking 6 courses this semester ( which is the norm for 1st yr engineers) I thought about all the problems I would have to solve. Instead I have my head stuck between pages talking about microeconomics to micro-ethics. gaahahhhhh it sounds all gibberish to me..especially the chemistry which I haven't looked for the last 2 years. It is true that in university no one is forcing you to do the work. But when you realize that you're paying over $500 (including textbooks) per class you are taking, you'd better at least pass it. Otherwise transfer to a college! not that there is anything wrong with colleges....
Here is a list of what I discovered this week:
1. You need a printing card to print anything using the school's printer. Printing cards can be purchased for a deposit of $1 and add any amount on to the card after. (printing costs 7cents). These cards can be purchased in any of the school libraries at a machine that looks like an old translink ticket booth usually beside a change machine.
2. 5% off all food purchased through the ubc student card! Be aware that if you do pay online by debit they do charge a transaction fee. I didn't know until I was charged the extra $1.50 :(
3. Best place to study! ***AUS*** the art student's lounge located in the 'D' Buch building. Quiet after 4pm. Free filtered water!!! :D and also microwaves, coffee, and has comfortable chairs and tables!
4. Rent-out-lockers. Any buildings that you have seen random lockers. They ARE in USE!! you just need to find out how to rent them out. Usually it is the association who are in control of them. Prices range from anywhere between $5 -20 for the entire winter semester. The prices depend on where the buildings are located. Usually buildings closer to the SUB the more expensive it will get.
